We were talking about aims.
Raul said he didn't know what aims were.
I explained that your aims were where you wanted your life to go,
the bit of the boreen you laid out for yourself,
the particular direction in which you headed yourself.
He said 'I don't have any. I have no aims'
"That's good english" I said
"But you could have said you were aimless
or better still,
that you are aiming at nothing"
"The thing about aiming at nothing"
I then went on mouth-farting on
cruel, pedantic nihilist I am,
"is that it's such a big and such a
wide target
that sooner or later
(and I'm thinking, by the cut of him now, it's gonna be sooner)
you're absolutely certain sure
at some stage, my binny,
my boot of a boy,
my frozen in fear of tomorrow,
to someday find yourself striking it."
